1 Happy New Year! 2 (2003)Wish I had more to report from my feeders this winter. Not quite sure if the low attendence is just about my cat?! 3 4
5 6 (2003) Plenty of snow! Went snowshoing off the beaten path today, here in Newcomb, across a wetland. Waist high! Mostly powder. Not many tracks. Just too deep except for those that don't mind tunneling thru the snow. You're sure to find red squirrel tracks bounding, then diving into some hole or disappearing up some tree. 7 8 9 10 11 (2003) Breaking trail again!  Even the spruce/balsam swamp behind my house had deep snow. I had a rough time slogging thru even with snowshoes. I can't imagine how rough it is for deer. That area has traditionally been a popular yarding area and I can see along the many deer trails that the deer are sinking well up to thier bodies.
12 13 (2003) Yikes! Wind so stiff this afternoon it blows the birdfeeder right over here up on the hill! 14 15 (2003)Found some spots right out back where the deer have bedded down. Round areas about 4' in diameter, packed down. I'm suprised. Its within view of the house. 16 17 18
19 20 21 (2003) Brrrr...cold again.
-20 degrees F this morning
