| I bring the best (and most engaging) nature-based
science education to you. Nature On The Move programs help you meet NYS
Learning Standards using the rich natural history of the Adirondacks.
They actively engage students in the discovery process, creating opportunities
for students to relate, experience, apply, cooperate and transfer knowledge
and skills to construct new understandings. For all age levels, preschool
to adults, programs can be designed to meet your needs in your classroom,
in your schoolyard or in a field trip. As a former high school science
teacher and later as a naturalist for 11 years at the Adirondack Park Visitor
Interpretive Centers there arenít many topics or age groups I haven't taught.
Take a look and see how I can help you!

Barking Up
The Right Tree
Are you up to the challenge Sherlock?
Learn tree identification using bark, buds and branches. Students design
their own key, use them in the field and prepare tree maps of area.
Staying Warm
There really are so many birds and
animals that stay active during the winter. How do they do it? How come
they don't freeze? (Actually some do!) How have we used knowledge of these
adaptations to our own benefit? We look for evidence of these animals and
learn about their adaptations as we experiment with some of their strategies
to keep warm.
Squirrel Survivor
If you were a squirrel would you
be able to survive the winter? Take this fun "test" and see who makes it
through the winter. Great in-depth introduction to one animal and its adaptations
to active winter life.
Winter Tracking
Snow affords the pages for the perfect
mystery novel. All the clues are laid out before you and its up to you
to solve the mystery of our shy and elusive animal population. On our hike
we look for all the signs in the snow plus, feeding signs, scat and more.
Donít worry if we donít find too much ourselves. I bring plenty of skins,
scat and other "animal-o-bilia." Students make their own tracking guide.
